Calling it “an offer we can’t refuse,” the founders of a photo-sharing service called Divvyshot announced Friday that they have been acquired by social network giant Facebook. Financial details and other minutiae were not discussed, but it was assumed that the design team would remain on board.

Divvyshot allows for group photo sharing: multiple users can edit albums, which are grouped around various events and places. As part of the acquisition, the service will be shutting down.

“Divvyshot will begin winding down operations as of today,” the announcement explained. “Existing users can continue to use Divvyshot; however no new accounts will be issued and our iPhone application will no longer be available for download.” In six weeks, Divvyshot.com will start redirecting to Facebook.

The hilarious and ubiquitous Photoshop mash-up is truly a site to behold. Here are a trio of links that take the idea further than just about anybody else.

Nicholas Cage as everyone – Ever wanted to see Nic Cage as Catwoman? Abe Lincoln? Even Rodney Dangerfield? Well this site has you covered. It features literally hundreds of Photoshop marvels featuring everybody’s favorite kinetic actor in a variety of ridiculous scenarios.

Keamy’s Paradise – This short-lived Internet meme featured a minor character from the hit TV show LOST in a hodge podge of pop culture scenarios. Very similar to the Nicholas Cage site but, it should be noted, came first.

Lol Cats – Of course, the feisty felines that started it all. These simple Photoshop creations feature cats saying silly things as they do silly things. It doesn’t get any simpler than that. But within the limited framework some hilarity is to be had. Check it out and fall in love all over again.

Adobe has been having some trouble getting Apple to adopt flash on their best-selling iPhone. This has not stopped the company from giving away six million copies of their Photoshop iPhone app since it was released last October. It’s the second most popular free photography app in the entire Apple app-verse. It allows you to do basic photo editing on your iPhone, including cropping, rotating, filters, effects, and borders. You can also view your finished work, be it video or still image, at Photoshop.com. This app is also available on Android phones and Windows Mobile. Happy Photoshopping!

As Photoshop experts of varying degrees, is there anything better than noticing a botched job that somehow escaped the cutting room floor and made it into the world? It is absolutely amazing to see the kind of mistakes that nobody notices, or the bad ideas that simply go unchallenged.

The folks over at Photoshop Disaster know this as well. They’ve taken it upon themselves to chronicle all of the awful Photoshopping getting done in the name of commerce. They post it online, we all make fun of it and a good day we learn something from the whole experience. Like, for instance, not to surround Tim Allen by about forty cardboard cutouts that don’t look real at all. Go check it out and submit your own disasters. Smoke em if you got em.

Old man winter is about to die and give birth to a brand new baby named 2010. You know what that means, lists! The internet is abuzz with more photography lists than you can shake a stick at. We’ve decided to get in on the action and compile a list of, well, lists. Here are various lists of the best and brightest cameras of 2009. It should make bargain hunting a bit easier, right?

* The folks over at dphotojournal have compiled a list of their favorite digital cameras of 2009. The top spot goes to the Canon Mark II, featured above. But don’t worry, there are many other quality digicams nipping at it’s heels. 2009 was a great year for digital cameras.

* The venerable London Times newspaper has written an article chronicling the highest reviewed compact cameras for the year. It features write ups on old favorites like the Nikon Coolpix to a host of new kids on the block, ready to take quality photos without taking up a lot of room.

* The Scientist magazine has unveiled it’s list of the top innovations in science for 2009. Why is this relevent? Well the buzzworthy Photometrics Evolve imaging camera made the cut. If you haven’t been following the buzz surrounding the Evolve, this camera purports to revolutionize imaging by replacing arbitrary gray pixels with scientifically quantified pixels. What does this mean? Pictures so good that they have the ability to change photography’s use in fields such as medicine and science.

* The Adorama Learning Center conducted a poll to decide the best camera of 2009. Guess what? The Pentax K-7 topped the list with 55 percent of the vote. Check the site to see what other cameras made the cut.

That’s it folks. Happy holidays and remember, always keep your cameras on you. You never know.

Abode recently announced that Photoshop Camera Raw 5.6, Lightroom 2.6 and DNG Converter 5.6 are available for immediate download on Adobe labs. These programs fall under the “release candidate” umbrella, which means they are on step above beta but not quite market ready. You can be Adobe’s willing guinea pigs!

The updates add raw file support for 19 new popular camera models, including the Canon EOS 7D and Nikon D3s, with additional DNG support added for the Leica M9 camera model. These release candidates also provide a fix for an issue affecting PowerPC customers using Lightroom 2.5 and Camera Raw 5.5 updates on the Mac.

The Lightroom 2.6 release candidate is available as a free download for existing Lightroom 2 customers, and the Photoshop Camera Raw 5.6 Release Candidate is available as a free download for existing customers of Photoshop CS4. The DNG Converter 5.6 Release Candidate is also available as a free download for all customers. All of the downloads can be found here.
